Ten-Thirteen

It was one of those anticipated nights, but nothing of what one could have ever imagined - a point of no return. Crossing the line, it was worth all the risk there is. An enigmatic, bizarre kind of emotion rising beneath the surface slowly unfolds the truth behind that facade of strong and controlled character. Neither of them has thought of something like that to happen. And yet, there he was, waiting for her to arrive, while she has been waiting for this like forever.

She didn't quite know how to approach him, and his smile was the only assurance she had, to know that the feeling was mutual. There was spark, much as the flames around them were burning, hidden feelings were also starting to stir up. And for the first time, she has never felt this secure - in the arms of a man she happened to have a crush on when she was 12. This was the night she would like to remember all the days of her life, the night she could hold on to when everything has to return to what it used to be. As temporary as it sounds, she had the most amazing dream to appreciate the reality. Their very first chance to sit side by side, actually having a conversation, actually looking each other in the eye, exchanging smiles - it was more than what she had hoped for. It's the chance they had to take, or else...................................

She had never walked down the street as carefree as she was with him that night. She never knew that holding his hand would make her feel like a child again. She didn't realize that smiling could be that easy, that smiling could be long lasting, that smiling means being with him. She never thought that being spun around like a debutante would make her feel like the most beautiful in her highest heels. If she only had, she could just have embraced the awkwardness they once had when they used to meet halfway along the corridors of their alma mater. She could just have said hello and cheered for him every time he managed to serve the ball right. She could just have seated next to him one afternoon when they were being pushed by others to do so. She could just have asked for more when she was being offered snacks. She could just have told him how she felt when she saw him laughing around with other girls. Yes, if only she had.......if only......but don't you think it's a little too late for self-blame right now? She has taken the risk of being with him that night, no matter what the consequences were. She was very much aware of what she's putting herself into. She's done with "if only's", she's ready for "to hell with the consequences." And it felt like she has done the right thing, for the first time.

It was one of those anticipated nights, but nothing of what one could have ever imagined - a point of no return. For that night, a girl with a strong determination and a hopeful spirit, was born. As strange and peculiar as it was, her mask has been pulled off. Neither of them has thought of something like that to happen. And yet, here she is, waiting for him to come back, even though he's already been waiting for somebody else. :(
